I’m Ken Kuwako, your science educator. Every day is an experiment. I first learned about this fascinating video, “The Wonders of Human Digestion,” from Mr. Y, and I’ve been showing it to my students every year ever since. It’s simply too good not to share. Have you ever wondered why your stomach doesn’t digest itself […]

I’m Ken Kuwako, the Science Trainer. Every day is an experiment! If a major earthquake struck right now, would your home or office building be able to withstand it? In Japan, many buildings are designed with clever engineering tricks that help protect people from powerful earthquakes. During a visit to the National Museum of Emerging […]

I’m Ken Kuwako, the Science Trainer. Every day is an experiment. Did You Know That Current and Voltage Can Actually Fall Out of Step? Have you ever imagined that the electricity flowing from a wall outlet might have voltage and current that aren’t perfectly synchronized? We use electricity every day without giving it much thought, […]

I’m Ken Kuwako, a science trainer. Every day is an experiment. The units “becquerel” and “sievert” are used to describe radiation levels. Many people have heard these names before, but surprisingly few can clearly explain the difference between them. At the Tsukuba Expo Center in Ibaraki Prefecture, I found an exhibition poster that explained this […]

I’m Ken Kuwako, your science educator. Every day is an experiment! Place three colorful transparent sheets inside a clear cube, then gently pour in some water. Suddenly, a tiny cube appears to float in the empty space inside. It looks like magic—but it’s actually a fascinating demonstration of the science of light. What Is a […]
