Every day is an experiment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cmagnetic field\u201d that forms around magnets and electric currents is an invisible concept, which can make it difficult for students to visualize. Apparently, that\u2019s not the case. This allows students to observe a variety of magnetic field patterns.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"33:1-33:93\"><strong>Clear plastic file folder<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"34:1-34:47\"><strong>Compass<\/strong>: Used to check the direction of the magnetic field. Having several compasses available for each group makes the activity more efficient.<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"36:1-36:44\"><strong>Magnetic chips<\/strong>: You can use commercially available iron filings or similar materials from a hardware store. However, iron filings can be dangerous if they get into the eyes, so I recommend using <a href=\"https:\/\/link.amazon\/B0hfNjA64\">Mag Chips<\/a> instead. When two north poles are brought close together, you should see curved patterns that bend away from each other, reflecting their mutual repulsion.
