Se caracteriza por sus llamativas franjas negras y amarillas. Se dice que recibi\u00f3 su nombre porque este patr\u00f3n recuerda a un <em>fundoshi<\/em>, la tradicional prenda interior japonesa que llevan los <em>oni<\/em>, los demonios del folclore japon\u00e9s. Se alimenta de todo tipo de insectos: moscas, t\u00e1banos, avispas e incluso, en ocasiones, cigarras y otras lib\u00e9lulas m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as que \u00e9l. Con sus poderosas mand\u00edbulas captura a sus presas en pleno vuelo y se las come all\u00ed mismo. Es, literalmente, un depredador a\u00e9reo en toda regla. \u00a1Que una lib\u00e9lula sea capaz de comerse incluso una avispa es realmente impresionante!<\/p>\n<h3><b>Una larga etapa larvaria y su relaci\u00f3n con la \u00abcalidad del agua\u00bb<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Aunque los adultos viven apenas unos meses, su etapa como larvas, conocidas como <b>n\u00e1yades<\/b>, es sorprendentemente larga: pasan entre 3 y 5 a\u00f1os viviendo bajo el agua. Durante este tiempo, las n\u00e1yades crecen aliment\u00e1ndose de peque\u00f1os organismos como pulgas de agua y larvas de mosquito, e incluso de peces peque\u00f1os como el medaka y de renacuajos. Como el <em>oniyanma<\/em> prefiere los arroyos y riachuelos de aguas limpias y de buena calidad, su presencia tambi\u00e9n puede considerarse un indicador de que el entorno natural de la zona se encuentra en buenas condiciones.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Una extraordinaria capacidad de vuelo y unos ojos compuestos de color verde esmeralda<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>El <em>oniyanma<\/em> utiliza magistralmente sus cuatro alas y posee una extraordinaria capacidad de vuelo: puede mantenerse suspendido en el aire, realizar giros bruscos e incluso volar hacia atr\u00e1s. Se dice que puede superar los 60 km\/h, persiguiendo a sus presas a una velocidad incluso mayor que la de un avisp\u00f3n. Adem\u00e1s, sus enormes <b>ojos compuestos<\/b> de color verde esmeralda est\u00e1n formados por unos 20.000 peque\u00f1os ojos. Yo tambi\u00e9n tengo una. Se dice que, al llevarla encima, moscas, t\u00e1banos, avispas y otros insectos pueden confundirla con la presencia de su depredador y evitar acercarse. En mi casa, incluso mis hijos la llevan cuando salen. \u00a1Eso da una idea de lo aterrador que debe resultar un <em>oniyanma<\/em> para otros insectos!<\/p>\n<p>Existe tambi\u00e9n una forma muy curiosa de atraparlos llamada \u00abpesca de lib\u00e9lulas\u00bb, que aprovecha el fuerte instinto territorial del <em>oniyanma<\/em>. La t\u00e9cnica consiste en atar un hilo a una peque\u00f1a piedra u otro objeto y hacerlo girar delante de la lib\u00e9lula. Al parecer, esta interpreta el objeto como un intruso que ha entrado en su territorio y se lanza inmediatamente al ataque.
