Decid\u00ed construirlo por mi cuenta y el resultado fue mucho m\u00e1s sorprendente de lo que imaginaba. El protagonista de hoy es el &#8220;efecto girosc\u00f3pico&#8221;, el mismo fen\u00f3meno que explica por qu\u00e9 un trompo o la rueda de una bicicleta pueden mantenerse en equilibrio.<\/p>\n<h3>Un CD sin girar se cae inmediatamente<\/h3>\n<p>Empecemos por lo m\u00e1s sencillo. Intentemos colocar el CD en posici\u00f3n vertical sobre la mesa sin hacer girar el hand spinner.<\/p>\n<p>Como era de esperar, <strong>el CD cae casi al instante<\/strong>. Lo m\u00e1s sorprendente es que <strong>el CD gira suavemente y vuelve hacia su posici\u00f3n inicial<\/strong>. La respuesta est\u00e1 en el efecto girosc\u00f3pico<\/h3>\n<p>El responsable de este fen\u00f3meno es el llamado &#8220;efecto girosc\u00f3pico&#8221;. Cuando un objeto gira, <strong>tiende a conservar la orientaci\u00f3n de su eje de rotaci\u00f3n<\/strong>. Basta una peque\u00f1a inclinaci\u00f3n para que la gravedad lo derribe. Sin embargo, en cuanto comienza a girar a gran velocidad, aparece una resistencia natural a cambiar la direcci\u00f3n de su eje. Esa es exactamente la misma raz\u00f3n por la que una bicicleta resulta mucho m\u00e1s estable cuando est\u00e1 en marcha y por la que un trompo puede permanecer erguido mientras gira. Un objeto en rotaci\u00f3n obedece a un comportamiento f\u00edsico muy diferente al de un objeto inm\u00f3vil.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 gira y vuelve? La precesi\u00f3n tiene la respuesta<\/h3>\n<p>Todav\u00eda hay algo m\u00e1s fascinante. El CD no solo permanece de pie: tambi\u00e9n cambia de direcci\u00f3n y parece regresar.<\/p>\n<p>Ese movimiento recibe el nombre de &#8220;precesi\u00f3n&#8221;. Cuando una fuerza externa, como la gravedad, act\u00faa sobre un objeto que est\u00e1 girando, el eje de rotaci\u00f3n comienza a desplazarse lentamente describiendo un c\u00edrculo. Gracias al <strong>efecto girosc\u00f3pico mantiene la orientaci\u00f3n de su eje y, al mismo tiempo, la precesi\u00f3n modifica poco a poco su direcci\u00f3n de avance<\/strong>, haciendo que describa una trayectoria curva hasta regresar.<\/p>\n<p>Naturalmente, un bumer\u00e1n real es mucho m\u00e1s complejo. La forma de sus alas genera sustentaci\u00f3n y aparecen otros efectos de precesi\u00f3n que producen movimientos tridimensionales. Por eso este experimento con un CD no reproduce exactamente su vuelo. Sin embargo, s\u00ed permite entender de una forma muy visual el principio fundamental: por qu\u00e9 un objeto en rotaci\u00f3n puede ir cambiando su trayectoria mientras avanza.<\/p>\n<p>Con solo un hand spinner y un CD, ambos muy baratos, puedes descubrir la f\u00edsica que tambi\u00e9n explica el funcionamiento de los trompos, las bicicletas, los bumeranes e incluso los sistemas de control de orientaci\u00f3n de los sat\u00e9lites.
