Tutkijat uskovat, ett\u00e4 vastaus l\u00f6ytyy saarten ainutlaatuisesta evoluutiosta.<\/p>\n<p>Eristyneill\u00e4 saarilla on v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n luonnollisia vihollisia, maaper\u00e4 on vulkaanista ja merelt\u00e4 puhaltavat voimakkaat tuulet luovat aivan omanlaisensa ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n. Sukupolvien aikana Sakuyuri on kehittynyt erilaiseksi kuin mantereen sukulaisensa. Kyse on samantyyppisest\u00e4 &#8220;saarten evoluutiosta&#8221;, josta Darwin tuli tunnetuksi Gal\u00e1pagossaarilla \u2013 ja sama ilmi\u00f6 on tapahtunut aivan Japanin Izu-saarilla.<\/p>\n<p>Sakuyuri kasvaa Mihara-vuoren vulkaanisilla rinteill\u00e4 ja mets\u00e4nreunoilla. Kalderan alueella se kukkii yleens\u00e4 <b>hein\u00e4kuun lopusta elokuun alkuun<\/b>. Olin siis sattumalta paikalla juuri t\u00e4m\u00e4n lyhyen kukinta-ajan aikana.<\/p>\n<h3>Nimen taustalla on kiehtova tarina<\/h3>\n<p>Izu \u014cshimalla Sakuyuria kutsutaan my\u00f6s nimell\u00e4 <b>Tametomo-yuri<\/b>. Nimi viittaa Heian-kauden legendaariseen soturiin Minamoto no Tametomoon.<\/p>\n<p>Tametomon sanotaan olleen yksi Minamoto-suvun mahtavimmista sotureista. H\u00e4net karkotettiin Izu-saarille kapinan vuoksi, mutta tarinoiden mukaan h\u00e4n hallitsi saaria k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 itse. Legendan mukaan h\u00e4n oli noin 2,1 metri\u00e4 pitk\u00e4 ja niin voimakas jousiampuja, ett\u00e4 pystyi upottamaan veneit\u00e4 nuolillaan.<\/p>\n<p>Hauska yksityiskohta on, ett\u00e4 my\u00f6s Sakuyuri voi kasvaa l\u00e4hes kahden metrin korkuiseksi. Ehk\u00e4 juuri siksi saaren asukkaat n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t t\u00e4ss\u00e4 valtavassa liljassa jotakin samaa kuin legendaarisessa j\u00e4ttil\u00e4issoturissa.<\/p>\n<p>Viel\u00e4 kiinnostavampaa on, ett\u00e4 vaikka Sakuyuria kasvaa useilla Izu-saarilla aina Aogashimaan asti, <b>jokaisen saaren kasvit eroavat hieman toisistaan sek\u00e4 geneettisesti ett\u00e4 ulkon\u00e4\u00f6lt\u00e4\u00e4n<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Izu \u014cshimalla tavataan sek\u00e4 t\u00e4ysin valkoisia ett\u00e4 ruskeapilkkuisia kukkia. Toshimalla puhtaanvalkoiset yksil\u00f6t ovat yleisempi\u00e4, kun taas K\u014dzushimalla pilkulliset kukat ovat tavallisempia.<\/p>\n<p>Vaikka nimi on kaikkialla sama, kukkien &#8220;kasvonpiirteet&#8221; vaihtelevat saarelta toiselle. V\u00e4h\u00e4n kuin murteet ihmisill\u00e4 \u2013 my\u00f6s kukilla n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 olevan oma saarellinen persoonallisuutensa.<\/p>\n<h3>Uhanalainen laji ja t\u00e4rke\u00e4 perim\u00e4n aarre<\/h3>\n<p>Kauneudestaan huolimatta Sakuyuri on luokiteltu Tokion punaisella listalla luokkaan <b>VU (vaarantunut)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Suurimpia uhkia ovat laiton ker\u00e4\u00e4minen puutarhak\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n ja myyntiin, vieraslaji kyonin (pieni peurael\u00e4in) aiheuttamat tuhot sek\u00e4 virustaudit. Jokainen yksil\u00f6 on kuitenkin sopeutunut saaren ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n pitk\u00e4n evoluution aikana, eik\u00e4 sit\u00e4 voi korvata.<\/p>\n<p>Jos kohtaat Sakuyurin luonnossa, paras matkamuisto on valokuva.<\/p>\n<p>Sakuyurilla on my\u00f6s valtava merkitys puutarhaviljelyss\u00e4. Se on yksi n\u00e4ytt\u00e4vien orientaalililjojen t\u00e4rkeimmist\u00e4 jalostuksen kantamuodoista.
