Seeing the World Through Subtractive Color<\/h3>\n<p>The inspiration for this device comes from an artwork known as the <b>CMY Cube<\/b>. CMY stands for <b>Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow<\/b>, the three primary colors used in printing, paints, and inks.<\/p>\n<p>The screens on our TVs, smartphones, and computers create colors by adding together the three primary colors of light: <b>Red, Green, and Blue (RGB)<\/b>. CMY works in the opposite way. Instead of adding light, these colors create images by absorbing\u2014or subtracting\u2014certain wavelengths of light. This contrast between additive and subtractive color is one of the most fascinating concepts in color science.<\/p>\n<h3>Why Does a Cube Appear When You Add Water?<\/h3>\n<p>Place cyan, magenta, and yellow sheets on three faces of a transparent cube and fill it with water.
