Cada d\u00eda es un experimento.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>El sonido es &#8220;invisible&#8221;&#8230; \u00bfo eso crees? En realidad, bajo ciertas condiciones, las ondas sonoras pueden aparecer ante tus ojos con total claridad. Cuando visit\u00e9 el Tsukuba Expo Center, me encontr\u00e9 con un dispositivo que hace exactamente eso: dentro de un tubo, peque\u00f1as bolitas de poliestireno expandido se elevan suavemente en el aire. Esa imagen te hace comprender, no con palabras sino con los ojos y con el cuerpo entero, que el sonido es vibraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es una &#8220;onda estacionaria&#8221; dentro de un tubo cerrado?<\/h3>\n<p>El dispositivo que encontr\u00e9 se llama tubo de Kundt, un tubo cerrado en ambos extremos. Es como imaginar una cuerda de saltar que ondula con fuerza pero parece congelada en el aire.<br \/>\nSi se colocan part\u00edculas finas de poliestireno dentro del tubo, ocurre algo fascinante: en los vientres, donde el aire vibra intensamente, las part\u00edculas se elevan flotando, mientras que en los nodos permanecen completamente inm\u00f3viles. El resultado es que la &#8220;forma&#8221; de la onda se vuelve visible a simple vista. Al aumentarla, caben m\u00e1s ondas dentro del tubo y el n\u00famero de vientres crece en consecuencia. La onda estacionaria solo aparece de forma n\u00edtida cuando la longitud del tubo y la longitud de onda encajan a la perfecci\u00f3n. De hecho, las flautas, los flautines y otros instrumentos de viento funcionan exactamente con este mismo principio: al tapar los agujeros, se modifica la &#8220;longitud efectiva&#8221; del tubo y, con ello, la frecuencia de resonancia, es decir, la nota musical.<\/p>\n<h3>Ver con tus propios ojos que el sonido es una onda<\/h3>\n<p>Lo que percibimos como &#8220;sonido&#8221; en nuestra vida cotidiana son variaciones de presi\u00f3n en el aire: una onda longitudinal, tambi\u00e9n llamada onda de compresi\u00f3n. Sin embargo, como esa vibraci\u00f3n no se puede ver, escuchar que &#8220;el sonido es una onda&#8221; suele quedarse en palabras sin demasiado impacto.<br \/>\nEl tubo de Kundt traduce esa onda invisible a algo tangible y visible: las bolitas de poliestireno.
