Su pulpa roja, dulce y crujiente, es uno de los mayores placeres para combatir el calor. Pero detente un momento y piensa en ello. Cuando cortas una sand\u00eda por la mitad, \u00bfalguna vez te has preguntado qu\u00e9 son esos <b>curiosos dibujos en forma de l\u00edneas<\/b> o por qu\u00e9 aparecen <b>semillas negras y semillas blancas<\/b> mezcladas en su interior? Dicho de forma sencilla, son una especie de <b>red de carreteras internas<\/b> por las que circulan el agua y los nutrientes dentro de la planta. Cumplen una funci\u00f3n parecida a la de nuestros vasos sangu\u00edneos y sistema digestivo. Est\u00e1n formados principalmente por dos tipos de conductos:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Xilema:<\/b> transporta el <b>agua<\/b> y los <b>minerales<\/b> absorbidos por las ra\u00edces hacia hojas, frutos y el resto de la planta.<\/li>\n<li><b>Floema:<\/b> distribuye los <b>nutrientes org\u00e1nicos<\/b> producidos por la fotos\u00edntesis, como az\u00facares y almidones, hacia las zonas de crecimiento y almacenamiento, incluyendo la pulpa dulce y las semillas de la sand\u00eda.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>En la sand\u00eda, estos haces vasculares est\u00e1n especialmente desarrollados para suministrar nutrientes a las semillas. Esos curiosos remolinos que vemos en el interior son la prueba de que la planta est\u00e1 alimentando eficientemente a su futura descendencia. Cuando imaginas esta delicada red trabajando en silencio, la sand\u00eda resulta a\u00fan m\u00e1s fascinante.<\/p>\n<p>Y aqu\u00ed va una curiosidad interesante. Si las semillas se forman alrededor de los haces vasculares, \u00bfqu\u00e9 ocurre si cortamos la sand\u00eda deliberadamente por una zona donde haya semillas? Sorprendentemente, muchas de ellas quedan alineadas en la superficie de corte, lo que permite retirarlas de una sola vez. Incluso es posible elegir ciertas zonas para comer pr\u00e1cticamente sin semillas.<\/p>\n<p>Sitio de referencia: <a style=\"font-size: 14px;\" href=\"https:\/\/hicbc.com\/magazine\/article\/?id=kurashi-news-22081001\">https:\/\/hicbc.com\/magazine\/article\/?id=kurashi-news-22081001<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Semillas negras y semillas blancas: la diferencia est\u00e1 en la fecundaci\u00f3n<\/h3>\n<p>Mientras disfrutas de una sand\u00eda, es habitual encontrar tanto semillas negras bien desarrolladas como peque\u00f1as semillas blancas que parecen inmaduras. Sin embargo, la diferencia entre ambas no se debe simplemente al crecimiento. Detr\u00e1s de ello se encuentra un proceso fundamental de la reproducci\u00f3n vegetal: la <b>fecundaci\u00f3n<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>La fecundaci\u00f3n ocurre cuando el polen llega al pistilo, desarrolla un tubo pol\u00ednico y las c\u00e9lulas sexuales masculinas alcanzan el \u00f3vulo situado dentro del \u00f3vulo vegetal, que m\u00e1s adelante se convertir\u00e1 en semilla. El \u00e9xito o fracaso de este proceso determina el destino de cada semilla.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Semillas negras (con embri\u00f3n):<\/b> la fecundaci\u00f3n se complet\u00f3 correctamente y el embri\u00f3n se desarroll\u00f3 con normalidad. Si se siembran en condiciones adecuadas, tienen una alta probabilidad de germinar y dar origen a una nueva planta.<\/li>\n<li><b>Semillas blancas (sin embri\u00f3n funcional):<\/b> la fecundaci\u00f3n no lleg\u00f3 a producirse o el desarrollo embrionario se detuvo prematuramente. Estas semillas carecen de capacidad de germinaci\u00f3n. Tanto el mel\u00f3n como la sand\u00eda pertenecen a la misma familia bot\u00e1nica, las cucurbit\u00e1ceas, pero presentan una diferencia muy evidente. Mientras que las semillas del mel\u00f3n se concentran en el centro, las de la sand\u00eda est\u00e1n repartidas por toda la pulpa. Esta diferencia no es casualidad: podr\u00eda reflejar distintas estrategias para dispersar las semillas y asegurar la supervivencia de la especie.<\/p>\n<h3>La estrategia del mel\u00f3n: concentraci\u00f3n para una dispersi\u00f3n segura<\/h3>\n<p>Las semillas del mel\u00f3n se agrupan en una masa central conocida popularmente como &#8220;la fibra&#8221; o &#8220;la cavidad de semillas&#8221;. Esta disposici\u00f3n parece responder a varias ventajas.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Facilitar que los animales ingieran las semillas:<\/b> la pulpa dulce atrae a los animales, y al estar las semillas concentradas en el centro, es m\u00e1s probable que sean consumidas junto con el fruto.<\/li>\n<li><b>Protecci\u00f3n de las semillas:<\/b> al mantenerse agrupadas, disminuye el riesgo de da\u00f1os durante el consumo del fruto. Adem\u00e1s, la masa gelatinosa ayuda a evitar que se sequen.<\/li>\n<li><b>Dispersi\u00f3n eficiente:<\/b> tras atravesar el sistema digestivo de los animales, las semillas pueden ser expulsadas lejos de la planta madre, aumentando las oportunidades de colonizar nuevos lugares.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>La estrategia de la sand\u00eda: dispersi\u00f3n amplia y m\u00e1xima probabilidad de transporte<\/h3>\n<p>Las semillas de la sand\u00eda, en cambio, parecen estar esparcidas por toda la pulpa roja. Esta distribuci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n ofrece ventajas evolutivas.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Semillas repartidas por toda la pulpa:<\/b> independientemente de qu\u00e9 parte del fruto consuma un animal, existe una alta probabilidad de que tambi\u00e9n ingiera algunas semillas.<\/li>\n<li><b>Atracci\u00f3n para distintos animales:<\/b> gracias a su elevado contenido de agua y a la dispersi\u00f3n de las semillas, incluso un animal que solo coma una parte del fruto puede contribuir a su transporte.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mayor diversidad de destinos:<\/b> al dispersarse en numerosos lugares, aumentan las probabilidades de que algunas semillas lleguen a entornos adecuados para germinar. Es una estrategia de \u201cdispersi\u00f3n masiva\u201d que favorece la supervivencia en espacios amplios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Como puedes ver, incluso algo tan cotidiano como una semilla de sand\u00eda encierra una extraordinaria historia biol\u00f3gica. El color de las semillas, su distribuci\u00f3n y las misteriosas l\u00edneas del interior del fruto son el resultado de millones de a\u00f1os de evoluci\u00f3n y adaptaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>La pr\u00f3xima vez que cortes una sand\u00eda por la mitad, quiz\u00e1 ya no veas simplemente una fruta refrescante.
