Kun py\u00f6riv\u00e4 hyrr\u00e4 kallistuu, painovoima yritt\u00e4\u00e4 vet\u00e4\u00e4 sen nurin. Mutta nopeasti py\u00f6riv\u00e4 hyrr\u00e4 ei vastusta t\u00e4t\u00e4 voimaa suoraan. Sen sijaan se reagoi hyvin odottamattomalla tavalla: se alkaa liikkua <b>sivusuunnassa<\/b>. T\u00e4m\u00e4n seurauksena akseli ei kaadu painovoiman suuntaan, vaan alkaa kiert\u00e4\u00e4 ympyr\u00e4m\u00e4ist\u00e4 rataa ik\u00e4\u00e4n kuin ny\u00f6kytellen.<\/p>\n<p>Ajattele, ett\u00e4 joku ty\u00f6nt\u00e4isi sinua suoraan edest\u00e4p\u00e4in. Sen sijaan ett\u00e4 kaatuisit taaksep\u00e4in, py\u00f6r\u00e4ht\u00e4isitkin sivulle. Prekessio muistuttaa hieman t\u00e4llaista vastoin intuitiota tapahtuvaa liikett\u00e4. Maa siis &#8220;ny\u00f6kyttelee&#8221; hyvin hitaasti aikaskaaloissa, jotka ylitt\u00e4v\u00e4t ihmisen k\u00e4sityskyvyn.<\/p>\n<p>T\u00e4m\u00e4n vuoksi my\u00f6s Pohjant\u00e4hti vaihtuu aikojen kuluessa. Kun muinaisen Egyptin pyramidit rakennettiin, pohjoista taivasta ei hallinnut nykyinen Pohjant\u00e4hti Polaris, vaan toinen t\u00e4hti nimelt\u00e4 <b>Thuban<\/b>. Prekessio ei siis ole pelkk\u00e4 fysiikan kuriositeetti, vaan sill\u00e4 on yhteys my\u00f6s ihmiskunnan historiaan ja t\u00e4htitieteeseen.<\/p>\n<h3>My\u00f6s bumerangin paluu perustuu prekessioon<\/h3>\n<p>Prekessioliike on yksi niist\u00e4 fysiikan ilmi\u00f6ist\u00e4, joita on vaikea ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4 pelk\u00e4n arkij\u00e4rjen avulla. Prekession vuoksi bumerangi ei kuitenkaan kallistu suoraan voiman suuntaan, vaan alkaa kaartaa sivulle. Lopputuloksena se lent\u00e4\u00e4 suuren kaaren ja palaa takaisin heitt\u00e4j\u00e4lle.<\/p>\n<p>On aika h\u00e4mm\u00e4stytt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 ajatella, ett\u00e4 muinaisen mets\u00e4stysv\u00e4lineen toiminnan taustalla piilee sama fysiikka, joka ohjaa gyroskooppeja ja jopa Maan akselin liikett\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>Yhden pienen maapallohyrr\u00e4n sis\u00e4lt\u00e4 avautuu yhteys Maan py\u00f6rimiseen, avaruuden historiaan ja bumerangien lentoratoihin.
