Y lo m\u00e1s sorprendente es que est\u00e1 profundamente relacionado con uno de los descubrimientos que llevaron a Albert Einstein a ganar el Premio Nobel. Hoy vamos a explorar un experimento tan sencillo como fascinante usando un electroscopio de hojas met\u00e1licas.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es un electroscopio?<\/h3>\n<p>El electroscopio es un instrumento que sirve para detectar electricidad est\u00e1tica (carga el\u00e9ctrica). En su interior cuelgan dos <b>fin\u00edsimas l\u00e1minas met\u00e1licas<\/b>, y cuando reciben carga el\u00e9ctrica, ambas se repelen y se separan.<\/p>\n<p>En este experimento comenzamos precisamente con las l\u00e1minas abiertas. Pero, \u00bfqu\u00e9 est\u00e1 pasando realmente?<\/p>\n<h3>La clave: el efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico<\/h3>\n<p>Este fen\u00f3meno se conoce como <b>efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando ciertos metales reciben luz \u2014especialmente luz de longitud de onda corta, como la ultravioleta\u2014, <b>los electrones salen despedidos de la superficie met\u00e1lica<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>En nuestro experimento, el electroscopio estaba cargado negativamente, es decir, ten\u00eda un exceso de electrones. Al iluminarlo con luz ultravioleta, esos electrones comienzan a escapar de la superficie met\u00e1lica y la carga acumulada disminuye. Como consecuencia, las l\u00e1minas dejan de repelerse y terminan cerr\u00e1ndose.<\/p>\n<h3>La inesperada conexi\u00f3n con Einstein y el Premio Nobel<\/h3>\n<p>El efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico fue uno de los grandes misterios cient\u00edficos de finales del siglo XIX. Los investigadores no consegu\u00edan explicarlo usando la idea tradicional de que \u201cla luz es una onda\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Entonces apareci\u00f3 <b>Albert Einstein<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>En 1905 propuso una idea revolucionaria: la luz no solo se comporta como una onda, sino tambi\u00e9n como un conjunto de peque\u00f1as part\u00edculas de energ\u00eda llamadas fotones.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias a esa teor\u00eda logr\u00f3 explicar perfectamente el efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico. Y fue precisamente este trabajo el que le vali\u00f3 a Einstein el <b>Premio Nobel de F\u00edsica de 1921<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Mucha gente piensa que Einstein gan\u00f3 el Nobel por la teor\u00eda de la relatividad, pero en realidad el premio se otorg\u00f3 por su explicaci\u00f3n del efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico. Un detalle bastante sorprendente.<\/p>\n<h3>El efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico y la tecnolog\u00eda moderna<\/h3>\n<p>El efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico no es solo un tema de libros de f\u00edsica. Est\u00e1 presente en muchas tecnolog\u00edas que usamos todos los d\u00edas.<\/p>\n<p>Por ejemplo, los <b>paneles solares<\/b> generan electricidad aprovechando justamente este fen\u00f3meno: la luz libera electrones y produce corriente el\u00e9ctrica.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n los <b>sensores de imagen<\/b> de c\u00e1maras digitales y tel\u00e9fonos m\u00f3viles funcionan convirtiendo la luz en se\u00f1ales el\u00e9ctricas gracias a principios relacionados con el efecto fotoel\u00e9ctrico.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00ed que, detr\u00e1s de aquel sencillo experimento en el que unas peque\u00f1as l\u00e1minas met\u00e1licas se cierran lentamente, se esconde una de las bases de la tecnolog\u00eda moderna.<\/p>\n<p>Al iluminar un electroscopio con luz ultravioleta, puedes observar con tus propios ojos una pista del gran descubrimiento de Einstein: <b>\u201cla luz est\u00e1 formada por part\u00edculas\u201d<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Te recomendamos ver el video varias veces y fijarte con atenci\u00f3n en el instante en que las l\u00e1minas comienzan a cerrarse.
