Cuando estiras la goma del globo, la <b>energ\u00eda mec\u00e1nica que aplicas se transforma en energ\u00eda t\u00e9rmica<\/b>. Es un efecto parecido a lo que ocurre cuando inflas la rueda de una bicicleta y la v\u00e1lvula se siente caliente. Est\u00e1 relacionado con un fen\u00f3meno conocido como \u201ccompresi\u00f3n adiab\u00e1tica\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>En cambio, cuando el globo vuelve r\u00e1pidamente a su forma original, la goma se contrae absorbiendo calor del entorno. Eso equivale a una \u201cexpansi\u00f3n adiab\u00e1tica\u201d, y por eso la temperatura disminuye.<\/p>\n<p>De hecho, este mismo principio est\u00e1 conectado con el funcionamiento b\u00e1sico de los refrigeradores y los aires acondicionados. En ellos, una sustancia llamada refrigerante se comprime y se expande repetidamente para mover el calor de un lugar a otro.<\/p>\n<p>Pensar que un simple experimento con un globo comparte las mismas leyes f\u00edsicas que la tecnolog\u00eda moderna de refrigeraci\u00f3n tiene algo de m\u00e1gico, \u00bfno crees?<\/p>\n<h3>La extra\u00f1a propiedad de la goma: \u00bfse encoge al calentarse?<\/h3>\n<p>Aqu\u00ed va otro dato curioso. La goma tiene una <b>propiedad opuesta a la de la mayor\u00eda de los metales y l\u00edquidos<\/b>. Normalmente, los materiales se expanden al calentarse. Pero la goma, sorprendentemente, tiende a encogerse.<\/p>\n<p>Esto ocurre porque las largas cadenas moleculares que forman la goma se enrollan m\u00e1s cuanto mayor es la temperatura. Este comportamiento recibe el nombre de \u201celasticidad entr\u00f3pica\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Es incre\u00edble que un material tan cotidiano esconda una f\u00edsica tan profunda.
