Every day is an experiment!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;CRASH!&#8221; Two objects collide and start moving together as one. We see these &#8220;collisions&#8221; all the time in our daily lives\u2014whether it&#8217;s a fender bender or a contact sport. But hidden within these moments are the beautiful yet strict &#8220;Rules of Physics&#8221; that hold true anywhere in the universe. Today, I\u2019ll show you an experiment using two dynamic carts to reveal the mystery of how Momentum changes before and after a crash.<\/p>\n<h3>Tools for Measuring the Invisible Force of Motion<\/h3>\n<p>To investigate Momentum\u2014which in physics represents the &#8220;oomph&#8221; or &#8220;power&#8221; of an object&#8217;s motion\u2014we are using two handy speed sensors called &#8220;BeeSpi.&#8221; These little devices are a scientist&#8217;s best friend, instantly measuring the speed of any object that passes through them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u300c<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4rp6Xen\">Bee-Spi<\/a>\u300d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-60709 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/phys-edu.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/\u30b9\u30af\u30ea\u30fc\u30f3\u30b7\u30e7\u30c3\u30c8-2026-02-19-5.06.45.jpeg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 176px) 100vw, 176px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/phys-edu.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/\u30b9\u30af\u30ea\u30fc\u30f3\u30b7\u30e7\u30c3\u30c8-2026-02-19-5.06.45.jpeg 512w, https:\/\/phys-edu.net\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/\u30b9\u30af\u30ea\u30fc\u30f3\u30b7\u30e7\u30c3\u30c8-2026-02-19-5.06.45-300x285.jpeg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"176\" height=\"167\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The dynamic carts used in this experiment are calibrated to exactly 1kg. By conducting the experiment on this larger scale, we can see the &#8220;trends&#8221; of physical laws clearly, without being distracted by tiny errors like friction. By attaching these to one of the carts, they stick together the moment they collide and continue moving as a single unit. Take a close look at how the slope changes between the weighted and unweighted trials. The key to this successful experiment was that tiny tool: the double-sided suction cup.
