Cada d\u00eda es un experimento.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Una cuesta empinada que te deja sin aliento. Justo cuando est\u00e1s a punto de rendirte y piensas: &#8220;No puedo m\u00e1s&#8230;&#8221;, \u00a1haces &#8220;clic&#8221; con la palanca izquierda! De repente, el peso desesperante del pedal de hace un momento desaparece como por arte de magia. Seguro que todos ustedes han vivido esa experiencia de ser salvados por esta &#8220;magia&#8221;, \u00bfverdad?<\/p>\n<p>Pero, \u00bfno les parece curioso? El pedal se vuelve muy ligero, pero ahora hay que pedalear much\u00edsimas veces para avanzar&#8230; Por el contrario, cuando cambias a una &#8220;marcha pesada&#8221; en un camino plano, el pedal est\u00e1 duro, pero cada pedaleada te impulsa con fuerza.<\/p>\n<p>Esta diferencia no es solo una sensaci\u00f3n, sino que se explica perfectamente con una de las grandes reglas de la f\u00edsica escondida en nuestra vida cotidiana: el &#8220;Principio del Trabajo&#8221;. En este art\u00edculo, desvelaremos el secreto cient\u00edfico que se oculta en el cambio de marchas de tu bicicleta.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; en el mundo de la Ciencia?<\/h3>\n<p>Primero, vamos a repasar la definici\u00f3n de &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; en la f\u00edsica. Es un concepto un poco diferente a &#8220;trabajar en la oficina&#8221;. En el mundo de la ciencia, el &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; es una magnitud que se calcula como: &#8220;Fuerza aplicada a un objeto \u00d7 Distancia recorrida en la direcci\u00f3n de esa fuerza&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Por ejemplo, la acci\u00f3n de &#8220;mover tu bicicleta (y a ti mismo) desde el Punto A hasta el Punto B en la cima de una colina&#8221;. Eso es precisamente el &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; f\u00edsico. Y lo crucial es que, sin importar el m\u00e9todo que uses, la cantidad total de &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; necesaria para ir del Punto A al Punto B siempre ser\u00e1 la misma, lo cual es un concepto fundamental.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a1No se puede hacer trampa! La Regla Universal del &#8220;Principio del Trabajo&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Aqu\u00ed es donde entra en juego el &#8220;Principio del Trabajo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u3010Principio del Trabajo\u3011 Ya sea que utilices una herramienta o no, la cantidad total de Trabajo necesario (Fuerza \u00d7 Distancia) no cambia. Una herramienta es un &#8220;dispositivo de intercambio&#8221; que reduce la &#8220;Fuerza&#8221; a cambio de alargar la &#8220;Distancia&#8221;, o viceversa.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Pero, un momento, \u00bfno se supone que las herramientas est\u00e1n para hacernos la vida m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil?&#8221; Pensar\u00e1n. El &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; necesario (subir la colina) ya est\u00e1 fijado. Para subir una cuesta empinada se necesita m\u00e1s &#8220;Fuerza&#8221; que en un camino llano (para contrarrestar la gravedad). Si us\u00e1ramos la misma &#8220;marcha pesada&#8221; que en llano, simplemente no podr\u00edamos empujar el pedal.<\/p>\n<p>Por lo tanto, el acto de elegir una &#8220;marcha ligera&#8221; es, desde el punto de vista de la f\u00edsica, como si declar\u00e1ramos:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;\u00a1Voy a reducir la &#8216;Fuerza (Dureza)&#8217; necesaria para empujar el pedal, a cambio de aumentar la &#8216;Distancia (Veces)&#8217; que tengo que pedalear!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Es un espl\u00e9ndido trade-off (intercambio) basado en el &#8220;Principio del Trabajo&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>El resultado es el siguiente:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Como la fuerza requerida es menor, podemos pedalear incluso en una cuesta (se siente m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil).<\/li>\n<li>A cambio, la distancia (repeticiones) se alarga, por lo que necesitamos pedalear muchas veces (avanzamos poco).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>El mecanismo del Engranaje: \u00bfCu\u00e1ntas vueltas da la rueda con una pedaleada?<\/h3>\n<p>\u00bfC\u00f3mo se realiza exactamente este &#8220;intercambio de Fuerza y Distancia&#8221;? El secreto est\u00e1 en la relaci\u00f3n de tama\u00f1o (relaci\u00f3n de engranaje) entre el plato delantero (el engranaje del lado del pedal) y el pi\u00f1\u00f3n trasero (el engranaje del lado de la rueda).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Marcha Ligera (para cuestas)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>El engranaje delantero (lado del pedal) es peque\u00f1o, y<\/li>\n<li>El engranaje trasero (lado de la rueda) es grande.<\/li>\n<li>Con esta combinaci\u00f3n, incluso si el pedal da una vuelta completa, la rueda trasera solo gira un poco (por ejemplo, 0.8 vueltas).<\/li>\n<li>Por eso, la distancia recorrida en una pedaleada es corta. A cambio, como solo giramos la rueda &#8220;un poco&#8221;, la &#8220;Fuerza&#8221; necesaria es menor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marcha Pesada (para velocidad)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>El engranaje delantero (lado del pedal) es grande, y<\/li>\n<li>El engranaje trasero (lado de la rueda) es peque\u00f1o.<\/li>\n<li>Con esta combinaci\u00f3n, con solo una vuelta del pedal, la rueda trasera gira muchas veces (por ejemplo, 3 vueltas).<\/li>\n<li>Por eso, en una sola pedaleada se avanza mucho. A cambio, como giramos la rueda &#8220;muchas veces&#8221;, se requiere una &#8220;Fuerza&#8221; mayor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>El cambio de marchas es una invenci\u00f3n maravillosa que asiste la manera en que logramos el &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; hasta nuestro destino, convirtiendo inteligentemente la &#8220;Fuerza&#8221; y la &#8220;Distancia&#8221; que aplicamos mediante la combinaci\u00f3n de engranajes.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a1Estabas usando las leyes de la f\u00edsica todo este tiempo!<\/h3>\n<p>Cada vez que haces &#8220;clic&#8221; para cambiar la marcha de tu bicicleta, est\u00e1s aplicando inconscientemente el &#8220;Principio del Trabajo&#8221; y eligiendo el equilibrio \u00f3ptimo entre la &#8220;Fuerza&#8221; y la &#8220;Distancia&#8221; que necesitas en ese instante. Elegir una marcha ligera en una cuesta no era solo una sensaci\u00f3n; era una decisi\u00f3n muy cient\u00edfica para lograr el &#8220;Trabajo&#8221; de manera inteligente, conservando tu energ\u00eda.
