T\u00e4m\u00e4n ilmi\u00f6n p\u00e4\u00e4osassa on maapalloa ymp\u00e4r\u00f6iv\u00e4n ilman paino, eli &#8220;ilmanpaine&#8221; (tai atmosf\u00e4\u00e4rinen paine). Normaalisti ilmanpaine kohdistuu muovilevyyn yht\u00e4 suurena sek\u00e4 ylh\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 ett\u00e4 alhaalta, jolloin voimat ovat tasapainossa. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tarkoittaa, ett\u00e4 yht\u00e4 neli\u00f6metri\u00e4 kohti kohdistuu noin 100 000 N (newtonin) voima.
